The next stop on our celebratory road trip takes us to Timber Ridge Building Supplies in Strathmore, Alberta. Owned by Kurtis and Carleyne Sianchuk, this thriving business specializes in interior design, custom cabinetry, paints, flooring, and building materials. As Community Futures Wild Rose clients since 2023, the Sianchuks have built Timber Ridge into a cornerstone of the local construction and woodworking community.
Timber Ridge Building Supplies was born from a vision to better serve contractors, homebuilders, and woodworking enthusiasts. Expanding on the success of their cabinetry and interior design business (formerly Green Light Home), Kurtis and Carleyne wanted to create a one-stop shop that offered more than just cabinets and paint.
The journey began with joining an independent dealer buying group for bulk building products. The Timber Mart's western Canada representative, Phil Temple, who happens to be a longtime Strathmore resident, made the connection feel natural and fitting. In August 2023, Timber Ridge was officially approved as the new Timber Mart Center for areas east of Calgary and Strathmore. Since then, the business has flourished, building connections with contractors, the Siksika Nation, and the community at large. In spring, the store opened to walk-in customers, offering a wide range of products, including specialty lumber, premium paints, hardware, and finishes. Supported by the community, Timber Ridge has proudly established itself as a cornerstone for woodworking enthusiasts and the construction industry in Strathmore and surrounding areas.
Moving to Strathmore from Edmonton was both a challenge and an opportunity. Building a business in a smaller town initially felt daunting, but it quickly became evident that community connections would be the key to success. Through Timber Ridge’s network, relationships were formed with local contractors, funding organizations like Community Futures, and customers who became neighbours and friends.
One of the most impactful realizations came from seeing Timber Ridge’s materials in local projects and knowing the business was contributing to the community’s growth. Running into customers or contractors at children’s activities or events highlighted the interconnectedness of life in Strathmore. This sense of belonging, hard to find in larger cities, made the journey deeply rewarding and solidified the value of being part of a supportive, close-knit community.
The proudest moments come from solving customer problems with creative solutions, cost-effective materials, and a dedicated team. Timber Ridge takes pride in creating an environment reminiscent of the "old lumber-yard feeling," where customers can enjoy a cup of coffee by the fire, have meaningful conversations, and build genuine relationships. The team’s efforts to prioritize connection and community have transformed the store into more than just a retail space. Each day brings new opportunities to meet customers who often become friends, and this sense of camaraderie is what brings the most pride and fulfillment.
The vision for Timber Ridge Building Center’s legacy is one of service and connection. The goal is to help others succeed—whether through providing high-quality materials, trusted contractor recommendations, or designs for renovations. The business aims to be a resource for the community, fostering growth and collaboration.
Personally, the hope is to be remembered as a team player and someone who always sought to uplift those around them. Timber Ridge strives to weave a fabric of mutual support and growth within Strathmore, contributing to a thriving community where everyone can flourish. By staying rooted in small-town values and prioritizing relationships, the business seeks to inspire future entrepreneurs to follow their dreams in a way that benefits both their community and the industry at large.
