Success Stories - Celebrating 35 Years

Rocking R Guest Ranch

Rocking R Guest Ranch

The next stop in our 35th Anniversary celebratory road trip takes us to a beautiful ranch in Wheatland County. Rocking R Guest Ranch, now owned by Ryan and Kara Carriere, serves as the ultimate retreat for those looking for an escape from their busy schedules. Showcasing the natural beauty of Wheatland County, this guest ranch allows folks to book a cabin for a peaceful retreat or adventure-packed weekend. They offer horseback riding, ice fishing, fly fishing, white water rafting, spa packages, delicious meals… and they even do weddings!

The story of Rocking R Guest Ranch is rooted in a deep love for the land and a passion for the ranch lifestyle. When the opportunity to purchase the ranch arose, Ryan and Kara saw it as a calling to create a space that blended the tranquility of nature with the warmth of hospitality. Their goal was to offer more than just an escape—they wanted to build a vibrant community hub where visitors could rediscover the magic of rural life.

Their entrepreneurial journey has been marked by bold decisions and a commitment to fostering connections. A standout moment came with the launch of Wine Down Wednesdays, a midweek summer tradition that started as a simple gathering with food trucks, live entertainment, and spectacular sunsets. The event quickly grew, attracting visitors from across Alberta and beyond. It became a celebration of community, uniting locals and international guests for evenings of camaraderie, laughter, and shared experiences.

In their first year of operation, Ryan and Kara expanded their vision by taking over the lease of the nearby Eagle Lake RV Resort, now renamed Wheatland Shores Campground. This ambitious move transformed the campground into a thriving complement to the ranch, creating a dynamic synergy that has attracted guests from far and wide. Together, Rocking R and Wheatland Shores have bolstered the local economy, supported small businesses, and drawn new opportunities to Wheatland County.

More than just a business, Rocking R Guest Ranch embodies a legacy of connection and collaboration. By hosting weddings, events, and local gatherings, the ranch has channelled resources back into the community, inspiring a culture of support and entrepreneurship. Ryan and Kara are driven by a desire to create a ripple effect of positivity, encouraging others to pursue their dreams while honouring the beauty of the region.

Their story is a shining example of the entrepreneurial spirit that thrives in the Wild Rose region. For 35 years, Community Futures Wild Rose has empowered ambitious business ideas.
